Dessert Gallery Offers Flu Shots
Now You Can Have Your Cake and Beat the Flu
Houston - With flu season approaching, Dessert Gallery Bakery & Café plans to do their part to help keep Houstonians healthy by partnering with the Texas Vaccine Institute to administer flu and pneumonia vaccines at Dessert Gallery locations in the Upper Kirby District and Sugar Land. Vaccines will be given Saturday, September 29, from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. at the Dessert Gallery at 3200 Kirby Drive, and the following Saturday, October 6, from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. at their new Sugar Land store, located at 2260 Lone Star Drive at Sugar Land Town Square. Shots are $20.
"They say that the best way to prevent getting the flu is to get vaccinated each fall," said Sara Brook, owner of Dessert Gallery. "And of course everyone knows that a spoonful of sugar helps the medicine go down, hence the tie-in with Dessert Gallery," explains Brook. According to Brook, the flu shot tradition began the year there was a shortage of vaccines. "People were standing in pharmacy lines and doctors' offices for hours just waiting for a chance to get immunized. That was the year I found out about Texas Vaccine Institute. They made it possible to offer this service to our customers and the rest, as they say, is history!"
The Center for Disease Control and Prevention recommends flu shots for just about everyone, but especially elderly people, young children, and people with certain health conditions who are either at high risk of having serious flu-related complications or who live with or care for high-risk persons.
