INGREDIENTS

4 oz margarine, softened
½ cup vegetable shortening
2 cups granulated sugar
5 egg yolks
1 teaspoon baking soda
½ teaspoon salt
2 cup flour
1 cup buttermilk
¾ teaspoon vanilla
5 egg whites

DIRECTIONS

Preheat oven to 350F. Spray three 9" pans with Baker’s joy.

Layers

  • Cream margarine, shortening, and sugar until light and fluffy.
  • Add yolks slowly and mix well.
  • Combine dry ingredients and add to creamed mixture alternating with the buttermilk.
  • Add vanilla.
  • Beat egg whites to stiff peaks but not dry. Fold whipped egg whites to mixing batter.
  • Divide batter between the 3 pans.
  • Bake 25 min. Or until cake tests done.
  • Cool completely before frosting.
