Friendship

Friendship is a delicate combination of admiration, trust, empathy, two forks and one dessert. At Dessert Gallery, we’ve seen besties turn sweet cravings into lasting traditions, celebrating everything from tiny wins to major milestones. This chapter is for the chosen families who’ve made DG their go-to for laughs, tears, and just because cake.

I met my friend Mikal over 30 years ago, volunteering at the Red Cross just down the street from the cafe. She has been battling cancer for several years now, and any chance for a celebration is taken. We have to always save room for dessert because we don’t know how many more chances there will be. This was March 2023, on the eve of her 44th birthday. - Ana S.

My "love" story is one of friendship. It's when I, new to Houston in 1995, walked into the original DG on Lake Street to meet Sara, whom I'd heard so much about through our mutual friends. The walk-in was just that: a no-appointment hello that caught Sara off guard. She likely thought I was a salesperson, but 'twas I who was "sold" on my first dessert love, Jennifer's Birthday Cake...and, 30 years later, "sold" on my continuing friendship with Sara and her personal and DG family. Sara and team, I am wishing you all a very happy anniversary milestone, with gratitude for DG-delighting us for 30 years! - Dee Dee D.

Since 2009 At 21 years old after college my best friend and I randomly came across Dessert Gallery! We now live so far away from each other. However, every time we schedule our girls day, we make it a point to go to Dessert Gallery! I even brought my mom, husband, and nephew there! We love and appreciate that this bakery actually tastes homemade! Nothing frozen and shipped to the bakery lol 😂 We will always and forever be customers as this bakery actually CELEBRATES culture, religion, educators and nurses like ourselves and the city’s spirit!! - Shayna W.

DG brightens my day with all of their super cute cookies!!! I love seeing the look on people’s faces when they receive one, and especially when they try it! – Regina O.

Whenever I want to surprise a friend or my partner with something unforgettable, Dessert Gallery is always my go-to. Whether it’s their dreamy Tres Leches, decadent tiramisu, rich pecan cake, or any of their out-of-this-world chocolate desserts—they never miss.

Every single item on the menu is pure magic, and every bite feels like you're being transported to another universe. Sharing DG is my favorite way to show someone I care… and to sneak in a slice for myself, too. - Sankalp M.

I was under strict instructions: pick up the cake and don’t be late. It was a surprise birthday party, and the pressure was real. Of course, the skies opened up, and I found myself dashing through pouring rain, cake box in hand, praying I wouldn’t drop it. Miraculously, I found a parking spot, and the DG team couldn’t have been kinder or quicker.

The cake? Total showstopper. Worth every soaked sock and soggy shirt. Since then, DG has become my go-to for birthdays, celebrations… and honestly, for no reason at all. - Victor H.

My best friend and I have a standing date: every first Friday of the month, we meet at Dessert Gallery after work, order our favorite cupcakes, and spend hours catching up. It started when we both had stressful jobs and just needed a sweet escape, but now, it’s our most cherished ritual. No matter how busy life gets, there's always time for cupcakes and connection. -Lena T.

My best friend had been going through a tough time and her birthday plans were completely derailed. But our friend group couldn’t let the day go by uncelebrated. Without her knowing, we planned a surprise party centered around everything she loves: Texas charm and cowgirl vibes.

We worked with the Dessert Gallery team to create the cutest custom cookies and the moment she saw them? Pure magic. She lit up instantly. - Rosa M.

Every year, no matter where we are, my best friend Nikki sends me a Dessert Gallery cake for my birthday. It started in college when we couldn’t be together, and now, ten years later, it’s still going strong. She always picks a flavor that reminds her of a memory we shared like the time we split three slices in one sitting. I never know which cake is coming, but it always tastes like love. - Maya C.
